Maltby CT250 Titanium and Titanium/Composite
Drivers
The CT250 Drivers, have become our best selling drivers that year. The
story behind the development of the CT is a great example of how we
develop new products in the Maltby Design Studio. In 2003, the USGA
developed a new standard for limiting the spring effect a clubhead can use
to increase ball launch speed. This standard, Characteristic Time, a
measure of the time the ball stays on the face at impact, was set at a
maximum of 239 milliseconds (with a 18 millisecond tolerance). We
challenged our team to develop a driver family that would maximize CT,
while placing head mass and designing bulge and roll to optimize spin rate
and launch angle.
Our team looked at some new metallurgy that permitted us to lighten up the
nominal head weights so we could add very concentrated weight at optimal
locations, something we had not previously been able to do except in
fairway woods. We created two models, an all-Titanium four-piece forged
model, and the same design with a composite crown that relocates more mass
to the perimeter. Both models feature a 15-333 Beta-Titanium forged face
designed to maximize CT to the Characteristic Time limit. Three
permanently mounted tungsten screws concentrate mass at the rear and to
the sides, ideal for improving head stability and optimizing the launch
angle. And, the face height combined with horizontal bulge and vertical
roll of 10" optimize spin rate and launch angle.
Both models feature an extremely pleasing crown profile and both models
have a very solid, powerful sound and feel at impact. For the ultimate in
custom fitting, the Titanium Crown model is available in five lofts, as
well as a .5 degree closed face option.
BOTH MODELS FEATURE
-
15-333 forged Beta-Titanium high strength
face for maximum legal spring effect
-
Tungsten screw weighting for maximum
stability and optimal launch angle
-
2.15" face height with 10" of bulge and
roll for ideal spin rate and trajectory
-
.350" hosel bore can easily be adapted to
.335 (see adaptors, page 123) for greater shaft choices
-
Free Headcover included
Titanium Model:
-
Four-piece 450cc forged Titanium body for
optimal weight distribution
-
Available in 6º, 8º, 9.5º, 10.5º and 11.5º
lofts (10.5º in LH) with a .5º closed face in the 10.5º and 11.5º lofts
Composite/Titanium Model
-
450cc body with ultra lightweight, ultra
strong composite crown for weight distribution that aids getting the
ball airborne
-
Available in 9.5º and 10.5º and a .5º
closed face in the 10.5º loft
-
